WhoU is a mobile app developed by Andrew Phillips, currently the president of the Software Developers Association at ASU. Using the WhoU app, you can find nearby people using Bluetooth and connect with them on their social media and contact information.
Based on his app idea, I designed a logo for it:
Figure 1. The “WhoU” app icon.
Representation
Based on his app idea, the logo should represent “people”, “Bluetooth”, and “connection”.
I mixed the Bluetooth icon (represents the keyword “Bluetooth”) with a face, so it looks like a smiling face (represents “people”) wearing a pair of sunglasses with the shape of a Bluetooth icon.
Figure 2. The initial sketches.
Figure 3. After a few tries, the smiley face with a Bluetooth glasses came out. (Note: the app’s name was in a brainstorm as well. It was called “Etect” and “AddMe”.)
The first draft has only one arc as a smiling mouth. Andrew improved on it and made 3 arcs that represent not only smile but also the wireless transmission (represents “connection”).
I used the Notability app on my iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil to make these sketches.
You can download this app from the App Store now.
